I wish I could simply manifest perfect, flawless skin, but no matter what I do to treat it well (face masks, exfoliators, infrared treatments, what have you), acne will still persist (ugh). While I can’t say I suffer from pimples on an ongoing basis, I do often experience hormonal cystic acne—which leaves me with under-the-skin breakouts that result in uneven pigmentation.
If the occasional pimple is completely unavoidable, I’m going to work at maintaining my skin after the fact. And now that I’ve (mostly) put an end to my acne-picking habits, dealing with the darker spots on my face has been my top priority — which is where the Facile Skincare Brighten Targeted Pigment Serum steps in.
This targeted pigment serum joined my daily lineup to fight against what I would say is the bane of my skin-focused existence. With claims that it can go head-to-head with discoloration and post-acne marks, all while brightening my overall complexion, I was ready to take it for a spin.
Brighten serum features key ingredients like tranexamic acid to help reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and azelaic acid to treat inflammation while also loosening your skin cells (goodbye, clogged pores). To finish it off, it has niacinamide, the popular ingredient that brightens the skin and also reduces the appearance of spots. If you ask me, this is all music to my ears.
Let’s dive in, shall we?
I started using the Brighten serum regularly (day and night) in tandem with my other go-to skincare products, layering everything on appropriately before sealing it all in with a moisturizer (in my case, a face oil). After a few days, I woke up with a noticeably more even tone in my cheeks. I have fluorescent lighting in my bathroom, which means I can see everything — and my acne spots, to me, were still very much visible. So, I started using it as a spot treatment in addition to an overall serum before bed. I’ll admit, my dark spots are stubborn, but I could tell they were definitely getting lighter over time (hey, nobody said perfect skin comes overnight!). After two weeks, my skin looked significantly brighter — and since I’m dealing with my first New York winter where my skin is veering on the dry and dull side, this was just what I needed for a skincare pick-me-up.
Using this serum is easy. The dropper in the cap was designed to provide you with the amount of product every time, which takes the guessing game of how many drops to use out of the equation. All you have to do is drop the silky smooth product, which comes out white and features a pearlescent gold sheen, into your palms before applying it to your face.
There isn’t much to complain about when it comes to this serum. I have sensitive skin with occasional eczema flare-ups, and I haven’t seen any signs of irritation since I started using it (I attribute it to the gentle-but-effective ingredients included). It absorbs into the skin pretty quickly, so it doesn’t feel like I’m simply pushing it around my face as I add on other products; I’d even consider using it for hyperpigmentation in other areas on my body where I’ve gotten some cuts and scrapes.
Whether you’re hoping to brighten up your skin just in time for spring or work away at the darker post-acne scars in your complexion, I highly recommend adding this to your routine. There’s no doubt you’ll start to see a difference soon!
