For our comeback interview, we knew we wanted to feature someone whose lifestyle and creative vision are synonymous with our own – a life lived with artful ease. Jamie Mckillop, founder of the home decor line Lazy Jamie, embodies just that as she reclaims and redefines the concept of rest in an ever-busy world. You may know her from her well-coveted stainless steel home accessories or her TikTok famous red bar, but today, we’re sitting down with Jamie in her Venice beach home to get to know one of our favorite creators offline. Read on to learn how Lazy Jamie came to be, how she prepped her skin for her, her entertaining tips, and so much more!
I wanted to start Lazy Jamie because I spent the first ten years of my career working for fashion and lifestyle brands, and I felt like there were a lot of great fashion and beauty brands, like facile, that really deeply understood their customer and presented a brand and voice that reflected that. I felt like there weren’t any home brands that really filled that space, and so I saw an opportunity with Lazy Jamie to create a really content-driven brand that met customers where they were with products that really filled those in-between moments of their lives in a really authentic way.
The name Lazy Jamie I think more literally is a play on lazy susan, or la-z-boy, but I think more emotionally it’s meant to really subvert what being lazy means — for a lot of my life I felt really guilty about any moments I was lazy. I kind of wanted to reclaim the term lazy, and really celebrate moments of being lazy and relish in them.
The brand and the product ties into that because it creates a home and a space that really allows you to be lazy and makes those moments of laziness even better.
When I'm identifying a new product I always try to listen to the audience and what they’re asking for the most. I'm always thinking about those sort of unexpected in-between moments of the customer’s life and what would best serve them.
Don’t feel like you have to do everything yourself! You can get catering, go to the store, get platters - make it as enjoyable as possible for you!
Our coupe! Yes, you can use it for martinis, you can use it for champagne, desserts, snacks — even in your bathroom as a little catch all. They’re really versatile and functional.
I actually have a pretty simple routine outside of getting facials, so just a very gentle cleanser, and then I use an LHA toner and an oily skin friendly moisturizer. And then at night a retinol.
My favorite right now is the Lip Jelly. Which I have on, so that’s why my lips look extra plump and hydrated. I love all of the colors because it's an extra fun little pop around the home.
I prepped my skin for my wedding by getting regular facials. I used to have pretty bad acne, but getting a facial once a month has really transformed my skin. I bumped that up to every three weeks before my wedding, and I would do extractions and microneedling with exosomes. Before the wedding, I just did something really extra hydrating to get it ready for makeup. And dermaplaning!
