Today’s guest shares a deep alignment with our very own guiding practices. Aisha Ross, founder of Less Is More lives by her brand’s sentiment whether it’s the perfectly edited capsule wardrobe or her skincare routine.
The purveyor of mindfully sourced, satisfyingly relevant second-hand clothing and accessories, Aisha has melded her thrill for the hunt with her vision for the future of a more sustainable fashion industry. We joined Aisha in her studio in Costa Mesa to shop her collection, and get the TLDR on her approach to living abundantly with less.
The pandemic really gave me the push I needed to start. I went to school for fashion merchandising and was working for an apparel production company at the time. I was bored at home since my building had shut down due to covid and was longing for something to fill my time with. I had always dreamt of starting my own brand and selling vintage just made sense. I grew up with my parents introducing me to thrift stores at a very young age. It was always like a treasure hunt for me to see what I could find. I had some pieces in my closet that I was ready to part ways and I immediately fell in love with seeing these pieces get a second life going to their new homes.
I hope that people understand the importance of shopping second-hand vs. fast fashion. If something cost $10, think about how much the person that made your clothing is getting paid and what their working environment is like. I want people to believe in quality over quantity and to invest in pieces you will have in your closet for years. I incorporate mostly neutrals because I value core pieces to add into your capsule wardrobe. I hope that people are in love with the clothing they get from me and that they feel confident wearing it. The beauty of vintage is that there is a story behind it and it is unique. You don’t always have to follow trends and can still create incredible outfits wearing all vintage. In fact, my favorite outfits I’ve worn, are vintage head to toe.
Definitely! Something I live by is we are not perfect, we are human. Do what you can to contribute, a little can go a long way. Whether that be, shopping secondhand more, switching over to reusable bags, composting, etc. I am always trying to improve ways I can be more sustainable in my daily life and know that every bit helps!
Absolutely go for it, but only if you are extremely passionate about it! You can’t half-ass it because it will show. I am all for pursuing your creative endeavors and why spend your life not doing what you love. Although it can be a struggle and risky at times, the reward truly is always worth it. Believe in yourself and tell everyone you love so they can hold you accountable. Lean on your community—can’t stress that enough!!!
Shocking, but I really do live by “Less Is More” when it comes to my skincare routine. My daily routine in the morning is a cleanser, moisturizer and spf. My new non-negotiable is spf and I use it religiously. My nighttime routine is just as simple—cleanser, hyaluronic serum, and moisturizer! I also carry a lip jelly with me at all times and cannot live without it!
After an ocean dip and being sun-kissed. I am such a fan of the beach and always feel like it cures me. It is my favorite form of therapy.
Addicted to the Lip Jelly! I also really love the Dew You hyaluronic acid serum and Barely There lightweight moisturizer.
